Sr. Margaret O’Brien (Sr. Rose Teresita), SNJM

Word reach our office that Sister Margaret O’Brien ( also known as Sister Rose Teresita) a Sister of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary for 73 years, died on Saturday, October 19, 2024 under Hospice Care in Tampa.

Born in Fort Pierce, FL, she was a graduate of the Academy of the Holy Names in Tampa and then entered the SNJM Novitiate  in Canada. After Religious profession she returned to Florida.  Her teaching ministries included St. Cecelia School, Clearwater; Academy of the Holy Names, Tampa; St. Joseph, Bradenton; Sacred Heart Academy, Tampa; St. Petersburg Catholic High School, as well as CMI and St. Joseph schools, both in Key West.

After Vatican II, Sr. Margaret received her Master’s degree in Religious studies and then entered wholeheartedly into Director of Religious Education. She served in the following places as DRE: Queen of Peace, New Port Richey; St. Vincent de Paul, Holiday; St. Peter’s Parish, Naples; St Peter’s Church, DeLand; Epiphany Parish, Port Orange; and Immaculate Heart of Mary, Silver Springs Shores.

In early retirement Sr. Margaret served as a substitute teacher at AHN, Tampa.  Later, she moved to St. Joseph’s John Knox Village Retirement community and then to Inspired Living where she has most recently lived.

Sr. Margaret loved teaching and people of all ages. She made a difference and will be greatly missed.
