Reverend Harold Brown, C.PP.S.

The Chancellor’s Office received news of the passing of Reverend Harold Brown, C.PP.S, of Celina, Ohio, on March 22, 2025 at Carthagena, Ohio, from heart and kidney failure. Father Harold was born December 29, 1931, in Glynnwood, Ohio, the son of Roy and Alodia [Oen] Brown, who proceeded him in death.
Father Harold was ordained a priest on May 31, 1959. He entered the seminary, attending Brunnerdale High School, Canton, Ohio; St Joseph’s College, Rensselaer, Indiana; St. Mary’s Novitiate, Burkettsville, Ohio; and St. Charles major Seminary, Carthagena, Ohio. After his ordination, he spent one year in tirocinium. His assignments included: 1979-84 Full-time work with Worldwide Marriage Encounter as a recruiter and team priest, based in Tampa, Florida, recruiting over eleven thousand couples for Marriage Encounter and teaming for one hundred ninety-two programs throughout the fifty states; 1984-96 Director of Family Life Office at the Chancery of St. Petersburg Diocese.
Father Harold’s living siblings are: Mrs. Paul [Ruth] Brown; Alvin Brown; Ann Leinweber; Agnes [Cletus] Schmerge; Rev. Joseph Brown, C.PP.S; Mrs. John [Pamela] Brown; Mrs. David [Jeannette] Brown; Dr. Virgil and Mrs. Mary Ellen Brown; Theresa and Richard Ramga. Preceding Father Harold in death were siblings and in-laws: Anthony and Dorothy Brown; Francis, Mary, and Ruth Brown; Paul, John, and David Brown; Mary and William Yahl, David Richard Leinweber [Ann], and David Smith [Theresa].
Funeral services were celebrated at St. Charles Center, Carthagena, Ohio, on March 27. Burial will be in the community cemetery. All funeral arrangements were under the supervision of the Hogenkamp Funeral Home of Coldwater, Ohio. Condolences may be expressed at: hogenkampfh@hotmail.com.
