We are looking for a full-time hourly maintenance team member to assist the facilities staff with the efficient and safe maintenance, upkeep and renovation of all parish buildings and grounds. This position is 40 hours a week with some nights weekends and holidays required. Bilingual desirable but not required.
General statement of duties:
- Maintains the parish buildings in a safe, clean, and orderly manner including vacuuming and mopping of floors, washing windows, cleaning, upholstery, maintaining wood furniture, restocking restroom supplies, and similar things.
- Performs minor maintenance of, and improvements to, the parish buildings including routine carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, lock maintenance, and similar things.
- Maintains the parish grounds in a safe and clean state, including mowing, weeding, watering, and edging lawns.
- Assures the collection and disposal of trash and garbage.
- Provides general assistance with parish functions, including installing decorations, setting up tables and chairs, and help, as needed, during the event.
- Provides general assistance with liturgical celebrations, including baptisms, weddings, funerals, and special Masses.
- Performs set-up and removal of seasonal decorations.
- Attends parish staff meetings.
- Adheres to all safety and security guidelines and procedures. Assures buildings are unlocked and locked as required.
- Assists in preparing the parish building and grounds for anticipated hurricanes and other weather events.
- Collaborates with the Facilities team leader as needed, in developing a comprehensive plan to address the operational and maintenance needs of the buildings and grounds. Advises the Facilities team leader, Pastor, and / or Parish Office Administrator of safety or maintenance issues as they arise.
Qualities and Skills:
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with no DUI on record
- Successful level II background screening and completion of Safe Environment training
- Able to read and write English
- Able to understand and follow safety instructions and precautions
- Experience with building and grounds maintenance or industrial maintenance
- Good mechanical aptitude
- Working knowledge of all phases of building construction is desired.
- Working knowledge of lawn care functions (seeding, fertilizing, mowing, etc.) and related equipment
- Ability to diagnose and perform minor mechanical repairs
- Ability to work from ladders, adjust to height and close quarters, withstand heat and cold, good eye-hand coordination and flexibility
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and spend 80-90% of work time standing
- Able to honor and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work independently
- On-call availability for emergences
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
