Job Title: Director of Music Ministry
Reports to: Pastor with reporting to Business Manager as applicable to Finance
Status: Full-time, Benefitted, Non-exempt/ Part-time position considered for the right candidate.
Goals:
- To develop a prayerful, singing assembly through celebration, preparation, education and personal ministry
- To build and sustain congregational song at all parish liturgies
- To increase attendance at liturgies though the quality of music selected and executed
- To develop a plan, in coordination with other staff and ministries, to expand choir membership
- To recruit, train, and develop cantors musically and liturgically
Duties:
- Responsible for all music associated with worship
- Keep current concerning developments in liturgy and music
- Maintain music licensing /copyright permission for performance, reproduction and livestreaming
- Participate in planning the liturgies and be primarily responsible for music selection of all regular, Holy Day and sacramental liturgies, as well as parish missions. Music selection should be done and distributed on a seasonal basis for continuity within the liturgical season
- Provide music and singing for Holy Days, funerals, and weddings, as well as weekend masses.
- Maintain musical instruments and arrange for professional services
Other Responsibilities:
- Attend all staff and liturgical committee meetings
- Formulate an annual music ministry budget for approval by Business Manager and be responsible for managing to that budget
- Arrange for substitute/supplemental musicians and provide all necessary information for payment to the Business Manager in advance of event
- Coordinate, seek talent for and/or participate in parish concerts.
- Continue to develop personal and professional skills in the areas of music, liturgy and leadership.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Must be educated in, and/or have equivalent experience with Catholic liturgical celebrations.
- A Bachelor’s degree in music, or equivalent musical experience with relevant degree
- Experience of at least five years in liturgical music leadership
- Proficient playing organ and piano
- Experience in directing music, choirs, and liturgical planning
- Must be organized and keep public music areas clean and neat
- Needs to have good people skills
Other:
- Must complete the Diocesan Safe Environment Course
- Must pass the FBI background screening through the Diocese of St. Petersburg
