The Diaconate Office has received word of the passing of Deacon John Edgerton from St. Ignatius of Antioch Church, Tarpon Springs. He passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2023. He was 91.

Deacon John was a loving and beloved husband to Joan. Together, they shared their love with their four children, Michael, Daniel, Janice and Carl. Deacon John is also survived by five granddaughters and two great grandsons.

Deacon John was ordained to the Order of the Deacons by John Cardinal O’Connor on May 24th, 1986, in St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City.

Deacon John retired in 1988 after a successful career as a Producer and Vice President in TV Advertising. He and Joan began their new life in Florida in 1988, where Deacon John took up his full-time ministry at the Diocese of St. Petersburg, Florida. Deacon John served at St. Luke’s the Evangelist Parish in Palm harbor, St. Patrick’s in South Tampa and finally, for many years, at St. Ignatius of Antioch, his home parish.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Deacon John Edgerton took place this morning, Monday, January 23, 2023, at St. Ignatius of Antioch Church, Tarpon Springs.
