General Statement of Duties:  The Coordinator of Communications & Evangelization is a full-time salaried position with benefits and will report directly to the Director of Parish Life. This position is charged with engaging current parishioners and potential church members through the implementation of a cohesive and effective communications strategy for the Parish which includes the management, coordination and production of all communication, print and digital, as well as direct outreach in the community.

Job Summary:

The Coordinator of Communications & Evangelization will lead in communicating the Parish and Diocese of St. Petersburg’s mission and vision internally and externally, in a clear and compelling manner. This includes the creation of a strategic communications plan which will consist of print, digital, marketing, and storytelling. This role will require experience in branding and communications management toward the goal of building a coherent narrative through sharing information and stories of our Parish which is captivating to all ages.

They will work closely with the Pastor, Parish Leadership Team, and ministry volunteers, seeking support from the Diocese as needed.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • In consultation with the Pastor and Parish Leadership Team, create and oversee a strategic communications plan that directly supports the Mission and Vision of the Parish and Diocese. Identify, create and implement good storytelling processes that will engage our Parish and tell our story inside and outside the walls. Advise on necessary communications and messages, providing details for a variety of settings and mediums.
  • Evaluate each current method of communication and strategic communications plan to assess what to keep, eliminate, or modify.
  • Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic communications including, but not limited to, weekly print bulletins, electronic newsletters, brochures, and St. Timothy’s website/mobile app.  The weekly bulletin is to be completed and submitted in a timely manner, including design, editing and proofreading prior to submission.
  • Manage social media presence, including the Parish’s Facebook and Instagram accounts. Create a plan for a minimum of three posts per week on each platform which will include upcoming events and showcase activities at the Parish.
  • Assists Parish Leadership Team with all Parish event advertising, as well as The Diocese of St. Petersburg and Spirit FM event calendar in print and digital.
  • Prepare for and engage in Emergency Communications as needed.
  • Manage the communications budget.
  • Attend monthly Staff meetings, monthly Liturgical meetings, and any additional meetings pertinent to the role.
  • Attend Special Events at the Parish and Diocese to take photos and/or videos for content.
  • Attend events within the Diocese and outside of the Diocese that provide value to the role.
  • Assist the Safety Team in cooperation with the Parish Leadership Team with the creation of a series of Emergency Preparedness videos.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Excel at working in a collaborative environment with the Pastor, staff and volunteers. Demonstrate the ability to engage and listen to others to gain understanding of core elements of content that need to be communicated.
  • Technical Competency: Able to work proficiently on different technical platforms (website, desktop publishing such as InDesign, email marketing, video editing, social media).  Utilizing all technology in the most effective ways to enhance church communication. Must have expertise with all Microsoft Office products.
  • Creativity: Strong writing, editing, proofreading, layout and design. Able to create communications that connect with audiences of all ages. Competence in creating digital and print materials that are both graphically appealing and grab viewer’s attention. Able to assess information and turn it into meaningful content.
  • Production: Oversee, create concept/storyboard, and produce original content for digital evangelization and in-house information.
  • Organizational Skills: Demonstrates the ability to stay organized to meet deadlines. Must be able to work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrates the ability to lead communications efforts and guide Leadership and ministry teams to the best ways to get their content communicated.
  • Initiative: Ability to take the lead in creating new avenues to communicate content to the community.
  • News Media: Follow Dioces of St. Petersburg guidelines in communicating to the public news media.  Pitch stories/develop press releases for local media for events at St. Timothy.

Work Status:

The Coordinator of Communications & Evangelization will work primarily from the St. Timothy campus. Travel within and beyond the Diocese of St. Petersburg may occasionally be necessary for this position. The expected workdays are Monday to Friday, with some nights and weekends as needed.
