Facilities Manager

Position Overview: The Facilities Manager is responsible for overseeing and personally maintaining, renovating, and ensuring the cleanliness and upkeep of all parish buildings, including mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems. This role also includes managing the maintenance and functionality of tools, vehicles, and power equipment. The Facilities Manager may supervise or personally conduct grounds maintenance, preventative maintenance, safety audits, and energy conservation initiatives. Ensuring contractors meet performance standards and performing various maintenance functions are also key responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Background in building maintenance, janitorial services, grounds maintenance, and technical skills required.
  • Proven experience in supervising maintenance teams and contractors.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to conduct safety and energy conservation audits.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.

Collaborative Relationships:

  • Report directly to the Director of Parish Operations on all matters.
  • Supervise seasonal or part-time help, including volunteers.
  • Capability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other staff members and volunteers

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work from a ladder, adjust to heights, and work in close quarters.
  • Endure varying temperatures, including heat and cold.
  • Possess good eye-hand coordination.
  • Maintain good physical condition to lift up to fifty (50) pounds and push heavily loaded carts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and renovate buildings as needed, ensuring cleanliness and functionality.
  • Oversee maintenance of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Manage and maintain tools, vehicles, and power equipment.
  • Supervise grounds maintenance and conduct preventative maintenance.
  • Develop a comprehensive annual work plan to address maintenance needs of the buildings, grounds, vehicles, and power equipment.
  • Manage maintenance staff and develop schedules to ensure coverage during all parish events and operating hours.
  • Perform safety and energy conservation audits.
  • Manage contractor performance according to established standards.
  • Responsible for grounds maintenance including mowing, shrub shaping, trimming branches, weeding, edging, blowing, and removal of yard waste.
  • Perform light carpentry work such as building shelves, repairing trim, and installing fences and may also be responsible for supervising these tasks as well.
  • Maintains an adequate inventory of custodial, maintenance, and operational supplies.
  • Assists with the buildings and grounds security, including reporting any unsafe conditions to the Director of Parish Operations.
  • Train and evaluate maintenance staff.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualities and Skills

  • A minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid Florida driver’s license
  • Experience with building, grounds, and vehicle maintenance is required.
  • Technical Knowledge:
    • Basic plumbing and electrical knowledge.
    • Good mechanical aptitude.
    • Knowledge of all phases of building construction.
    • Ability to diagnose and perform mechanical repairs.
  • Maintenance and Safety:
    • Knowledge of cleaning products and their appropriate usage.
    • Capability to update and maintain an M.S.D.S (Material Safety Data Sheet) manual for the facility.
  • Basic proficiency in using computers.
  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Dress appropriately and conduct self in a professional manner.

Candidate must successfully pass a Level II FBI Background Screening and complete Safe Environment Training prior to employment.
