Deacon Robert “Bob” Simpson
Deacom Simpson passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2018. He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Peg” of  63 years. Deacon Bob was ordained for the Diocese of Rockville Centre on June 9, 1979. He moved to the Diocese of St. Petersburg in May of 1991 and was assigned to St. Michael the Archangel in Hudson where he served until 2016 when he retired from ministry. Deacon Bob was 88.

Funeral services were held in December 24, 2018 at St. Michael the Archangel Parish, Hudson, followed by Interment at Bushnell.  Expressions of sympathy for the Simpson family may be sent to the parish.

Gail Brett Cyrus
Mrs. Gail Brett Cyrus, 92, of St. Petersburg, died Monday, December 31, 2018.  Mrs. Brett Cyrus was the mother of TIm (Sue) Brett, from Brett Funeral Home.  Born in St. Charles, MO, and fresh out of college, she moved to St. Petersburg in 1950 to start work in the lab at St. Anthony’s Hospital.  She met her future husband Thomas J. Brett while working at St. Anthony’s Hospital. Tom was an ambulance driver, Gail was in the lab, and their paths crossed. They married a year later, started their family, and in 1960 opened Brett Funeral Home on Central Avenue. The family business, now in its third generation, is one of the few family owned funeral homes left in the Tampa Bay area. Gail was always proud of the legacy she helped to create. In the 1970’s, Gail managed the funeral home as Tom battled health problems for several years. Tom passed in 1977. In 1979, Gail married John Cyrus, a local real estate broker.

Gail was preceded in death by grandson, Patrick Brett and step daughter-in-law, Patricia Cyrus Czarnecki. She is survived by sons, Tim (Sue) and Terry (Kim); grandchildren, Tom, Kristen, David, and Drew; great-grandchildren, Archer, Patrick, Pierce, Penn and extended family in Denver, Bob Czarnecki, Lisa Czarnecki White (Jason) and their daughter, Olivia.

Funeral Mass will be 10 am Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle. Burial at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the Tampa Bay Symphony or the Patrick Brett Foundation c/o Brett Funeral Home. On line guestbook at www.brettfuneralhome.net

Leon G. Aubuchon
Mr. Aubuchon passed away on Monday, December 24, 2018. He was born on October 8, 1933 in Bonne Terre, Missouri, the son of Wilfrid and Lucille AuBuchon. Leon is survived by his brother, James, of Desloge, Missouri; his son, Peter (Maureen); his grandchildren, Tyler, Amelia, Maria, and John; and his daughter-in-law, Sheila Renee. Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Wilfrid and Lucille; his brothers, Ronald and Fred; his wife of 57 years, Irene; and his son, Michael.

After the Army, Leon took a job with Mayrose Meat Company, selling meat to butcher shops and grocery stores for 25 years, eventually moving to Tampa in 1967. Leon fished with his sons regularly in Florida, had a weekly poker game with friends and Irene, was an avid golfer, scoring four holes-in-one, and played years of church league softball for his family’s parish, Most Holy Redeemer. Leon was a devout Catholic for his entire life. As a married couple, Leon and Irene were nearly inseparable. Later in life, Leon loved spending time with his grandchildren, helping his grandsons with the finer aspects of baseball, and regaling his granddaughters with tales of being a “ladies’ man” in Bonne Terre, Missouri. In 1981, Leon took a job selling religious supplies for Watra Church Goods Company, which he did until 2015. Leon will be remembered as a devoted father and husband, for being a very funny man with a terrific sense of humor, for his love of golf and competition, for his smile and for his love of the company of others. He will be sorely missed. A funeral Mass will be held at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 10:30 am followed by interment with Military Honors at Florida National Cemetery at 2:30 pm.
