During the high holy days of the Christian calendar, the faithful will gather at churches around the Diocese of St. Petersburg to recall the moments leading up to the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Who: Bishop Gregory Parkes, DACA Dreamers Nancy Palacios (St. Clement Parish) and Gustavo Facio (Corpus Christi)
What: Washing of the Feet during the Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper
When: Thursday, March 29, 7 pm
Where: Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle, 5815 5th Ave N, St. Petersburg
Why: The Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper is celebrated on Holy Thursday and we hear in the Scriptures about Jesus washing the feet of his Disciples. Not only do we hear about Jesus washing the feet of his disciples, but we see and experience it. On Holy Thursday, Bishop Parkes will follow the example of Jesus Christ to wash the feet of several members of the assembly, including two DACA dreamers. This simple ritual reminds us that we as followers of Christ are called to be humble servants of those in need.
