What: Third Annual Cities for Life/Cities Against the Death Penalty Interfaith Prayer Vigil
Where: St. Cecelia Catholic Church, 820 Jasmine Way, Clearwater
When: Thursday, November 30 at 7:00 p.m. (World Day for the Abolition of the Death Penalty)
Why: Members of the growing movement to abolish the death penalty in Florida will gather for an outdoor prayer vigil which includes candle lighting, prayers and talks on the inhumanity of the death penalty. Speakers include the authors of Forgiving My Daughter’s Killer (Deacon Andy and Kate Grosmaire) Allison Ferber Miller, Sr. Public Defender, and local clergy. This event is being planned in conjunction with Cities for Life – Cities Against the Death Penalty. November 30th is the globally designated and recognized day for the annual “World Day for the Abolition of the Death Penalty.”
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Spearheaded by the lay Catholic community of Sant’Egidio since 2002, each year about 2,000 cities all over the globe participate in “World Day for the Abolition of the Death Penalty” to renounce the death penalty and encourage a more civil form of justice. Many cities take part by lighting up major historical, religious or civic monuments to support the effort to raise awareness to stop the death penalty.
