Casting your vote responsibly requires you to be informed. That’s why each election cycle, the Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops (FCCB) conducts the Candidate Questionnaire Project in an effort to assist Catholics and the broader community with the obligation to become informed voters. The FCCB invites all 2018 U.S. Congressional, Florida gubernatorial and Florida legislative candidates on the ballot in the Primary and General Elections to share their positions on ten public policy issues concerning human life and dignity, and the common good. Candidates are offered the opportunity to state their positions as well as provide brief comments on each question.

The Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, November 6. Before you cast your ballot, take the time to see where your candidates stand.

Amendments

Twelve amendments to the Florida Constitution will appear on the November 6 ballot. The full text of all amendments on the ballot is available from the Florida Division of Elections. In order for an amendment to pass, 60% of the electorate must vote in support.

The Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops has taken a formal position on three of the 12 amendments.

• Amendment 3: Voter Control of Gambling in Florida – SUPPORT
• Amendment 4: Voting Restoration Amendment – SUPPORT
• Amendment 6: Rights of Crime Victims; Judges – OPPOSE

A brief statement on each of the three amendments and the FCCB’s positions can be found here (English) | (Spanish). This document is approved for distribution in parishes and by Church ministries. The FCCB also has a guide on specific amendments.

Voters are urged to consider Catholic Social Teaching and consult the document, Considerations Before Voting on Constitutional Amendments (English) | (Spanish), as they discern their vote on the remaining nine amendments on the ballot.
