St. Maximilian Kolbe was a Polish Franciscan priest, missionary and martyr. He died on August 14, 1941. He is known as the patron saint for media and communications.
He began publication of The Knight of the Immaculata magazine to reach an incredible monthly circulation of one million and he also published a daily newspaper that reached 230,000. Future plans called for all forms of communication media, including radio, movies and even television to be used for the work of evangelization under the mantle of Mary.
However, the saint died in a concentration camp at Auschwitz, during World War II, and is remembered as a “martyr of charity” for dying in place of another prisoner who had a wife and children. He was canonized by Pope John Paul II on October 10, 1982.
St. Maximillian Kolbe pray for us!
