Websites, emails, e-newsletters, texting, video and audio streaming, social networking, apps and video conferencing are all forms of electronic communications.
With the proliferation of Wi-Fi and new avenues of interconnectivity, we are seeing an avalanche of new communication technologies taking root in our culture and in so many ways, changing the culture and what it means to communicate.
It is easy to become overwhelmed in the face of instantaneous communication and rapid changes. But Pope Francis assures us to let the love of God guide us. In his 2014 World Day of Communications Message, he states: “Communication is a means of expressing the missionary vocation of the entire Church; today the social networks are one way to experience this call to discover the beauty of faith, the beauty of encountering Christ. In the area of communications too, we need a Church capable of bringing warmth and of stirring hearts.”
Therefore, it is not the medium that determines the message. In our case, love of Christ and our neighbor determines the message.
Together let us venture to incorporate new ways of delivering this message and adapting to the changing technologies.
