Congratulations on your decision to marry! It is our pleasure to assist you as you prepare for the Sacrament of Marriage!
What is Journey to Matrimony?
As couples prepare to spend a lifetime together and enter into the Sacrament of Matrimony, this comprehensive overnight marriage preparation experience is intended for those who desire a richer, fuller life together. It is our hope that the couple’s relationship will be deepened and enriched not only as they look toward the future…but also throughout the remainder of their engagement.
Because we want nothing but the best for you and your marriage, Journey to Matrimony is the preferred preparation program of the Diocese of St. Petersburg for first marriages.
Who Should Attend this Program?
Be it a couple where two Catholics are marrying or an interfaith couple where a Catholic and non-Catholic are marrying, this program is intended for those where neither the bride nor the groom were previously married.
What if one or both of us were married before?
Regardless of the circumstances that may have surrounded a previous marriage or marriages, it is our recommendation that the Remarriage Program be chosen if one or both of you had a prior marriage. Click for Remarriage Brochure 2017
We make every attempt to direct couples to the program they will benefit from the most. If the Remarriage Program wasn’t mentioned by the priest or deacon assisting you with your marriage preparation, we suggest contacting them to see if the Remarriage Program might be more suitable before submitting your Journey to Matrimony registration.
While we have diocesan guidelines for marriage preparation, it is the priest or deacon that determines which program each couple is required to attend. With this in mind, we will accommodate you for whichever program your priest prefers, be it Journey to Matrimony or the Remarriage Program.
Please note: Pending availability, a late fee of $75 will apply to registrations not received by the deadline.

What if we need to register after the deadline?

Should we check availability before submitting our registration?
While this may seem helpful, it can actually be the difference between getting confirmed or not in cases where a program might have very limited availability. Since registrations are handled in the order received by post mark date, you are better off submitting your paperwork rather than waiting to hear if a certain program has space. Payment is never processed unless we are 100% sure we can accommodate you.
How will we know if we are confirmed?
Shortly after receiving your registration, notification will be sent to each email address listed on the form. Not only will this will acknowledge receipt of your paperwork, it will also include an attachment of a confirmation letter which contains additional information. In the absence of email, confirmation will be sent via postal service to the bride’s home address.
Where does the program take place?
Journey to Matrimony is held at the Bethany Center, our diocesan retreat center in Lutz. Details will be included in your confirmation letter.
What is the cost?
The cost to attend is $235 per couple. A deposit of $150.00 is requested at the time of registration. The balance is collected upon arrival at the program. You are welcome to submit the full amount of time of registration is you wish to do so.
What does the registration fee include?
The cost includes program materials – accommodations – dinner Friday evening – breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday.
What do we need to bring?
The confirmation letter you receive will provide the remaining information such as what to bring, the address, etc. Again, in the absence of Email, a confirmation will be sent to the bride’s home address.
What time does the program begin and end?
Couples should plan to arrive between 6:00 and 6:30 p.m. Friday evening. The program ends no later than 8:30 p.m. Saturday evening.
Who do we contact if we have questions or need further assistance?
All contact regarding this program or the marriage preparation process should be with the Office of Marriage & Family Ministries. Since Bethany Center serves only as the host facility, their staff is unable to answer any questions you may have.
